The South African academic year has just began. Some have just graduated and penetrated the job market; those who just matriculated are now preparing for university; and some still haven’t decided what they want to do this year. With all these new adjustments, it is important to keep our eyes focused on fulfilling our purpose on this earth.
Many might ask, “How do I do that?”. It all starts with first identifying what you think you were brought on this earth to do. Sounds very deep, neh? That’s why I asked one of our Changeholics (click on his name to read the article on him), Sammy Mokgoatsane, who is a professional motivational speaker, to put all this in simple terms.
He shared one of his motivational pieces, ‘I believe I can! I believe it’s possible!’, for me to share with you guys. Raw and unedited, it goes something like this:
“Some people struggle in life because they believe in the wrong things. They believe in movie stars, athletes, singers, and people they find successful. It is an emotional high when these people touch our souls somehow. Unfortunately, they do not believe in themselves. This is a tragedy for the common person who wants to better themselves in any way.
Find your life purpose.
First: Fix your mind with the amount of goals you want to achieve.
Second: Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the goals you desire.
Third: Establish a definite date when you intend to achieve your goals.
Fourth: Write you goals down, e.g, if you walk into a shop without knowing what you want beforehand, you’ll most likely leave with nothing or perhaps with something you may not really need.
Fifth: Read your written statement out loud twice daily once just before retiring at night and once after arising in the morning.
Be clear on why you are here.
I believe each one of us is built to have a life purpose. When you have purpose you do what you are destined to do. Likewise, if you approach life with no idea of what you really want, what are your chances of ever living your ideal life?
Write down 30 things you like to do and how you can make money out of them. If you love sport you can be a player, coach, or even a sports reporter. There are a million of ways to live your ideal life. Your Life is like navigation system ; you need to tell it were you want to be in life by setting your goals.
Here is a little story. A boy and his father are walking in the mountains when the son suddenly falls and hurts himself. He screamed “AAhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!”. To his surprise he heard a voice repeating somewhere in the mountains “AAhhhhhhh!!!!!!”. Curious, he yells “WHO ARE YOU?”. He receives the same question he asked. He got angry and screamed “Coward!”. He received “Coward!” In response. With even more curiosity, he asks his father what’s going on . The father smiled and said, “My son, pay attention”. He then screamed to the mountain “I admire you!” The voice repeated what he said. “It’s called an echo,” he said to his son, “but in reality it’s called life.” “It gives back everything you say and reflects all your actions. It gives what you give.”
TAKE ACTION! The world doesn’t pay you for what you know, it pays you for what you do.
Here are some motivational stories you can read: 1. Henry Ford, a poor and uneducated man dreamt of a horseless carriage, went to work and built the first car. 2. Thomas Edison was afraid of the dark – yet he overcame that obstacle in a big way and invented the light bulb. 3. The Wright brothers dreamt of a machine that would fly through the air.”
Believe in yourself. You can be and do anything you want to be.
